Itokazu Abuchiragama
Itokazu Abuchiragama is a cave that carries the memory of war into the present; visits require a reservation and a guide, and the site is approached with quiet respect.

Itokazu Abuchiragama is a place for facing the memory of the Battle of Okinawa. It is not a place to enter in search of thrills or novelty. It is a cave for taking in, through the darkness, the uneven ground, and the words spoken there, how the past remains connected to the present. When you visit, please come with a quiet heart and lowered voice.
According to the official guidance, entry requires a reservation, visitors may not enter without a guide, and a flashlight is necessary. Visits are limited to the official route through the guidance center. For individual and group reservation procedures and availability, please check with the official office. Photography is subject to Nanjo City's official permission application procedure, and applications must be submitted a set period before the intended date. Refusing to treat the interior of the cave as casual photographic material is the minimum respect this place asks of us.
Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and clothing they do not mind getting dirty, and follow the guide's instructions at all times. Inside the cave, be mindful of the volume of your voice, the direction of your light, photography, and consideration for those around you. What matters is not consuming an experience, but carrying home what has been told.
A journey through Nanjo holds the brightness of the sea, the stillness of prayer, and the memory of war. Itokazu Abuchiragama does not belong on the same shelf as the others. Please visit it as a place of a different depth, with quiet respect.
