Mibaru Beach / Hyakuna Beach

Mibaru Beach and Hyakuna Beach are natural sands along the Tamagusuku coast of Nanjo City, offering shallow waters and quiet time — while care for the nearby sacred places and villages also matters here.

Mibaru Beach / Hyakuna Beach

Mibaru Beach and Hyakuna Beach are the natural shores to visit when you want to take in the seas of Nanjo slowly. The two beaches are joined as one long, continuous coastline. On the Mibaru side, shallow waters stretch far out, and glass-bottom boat rides are among its well-known pleasures. The Hyakuna side is a simpler, quieter shoreline, with an unpolished openness that has escaped heavy tourism.

On this coast, treat your enjoyment of the sea and your consideration for the land as equally important. The Hyakuna side in particular lies adjacent to sacred ground. Do not enter areas that are not marked for visitors, and do not point your camera at places of prayer or private property. Where the shore borders sacred ground, choosing deliberately not to photograph it is also a valid decision. The quieter the beach, the more visible a visitor's conduct becomes. And remember to take all your litter with you.

As for how to spend your time: on the Mibaru side, enjoy the facilities and activity operators while checking their official information. On the Hyakuna side, respect the stillness of a natural, undeveloped shore. If you plan a longer stay, check the sun, the tides, the footing, and the restroom and parking situation in advance. Do more than use the beautiful sea as a backdrop — leave the shore's own rhythm undisturbed, and this long coastline will reward you with one of the deepest, most lasting impressions in all of Nanjo.
